Performing a Memory Upgrade Yourself
Most computers are manufactured with a pretty standard memory with
which you run your software programs. It is the speed at which your
computer can access the memory. If you want a faster running computer,
then you are going to have to perform a memory upgrade so that it can
run more systems at once and access the short term storage as well as
the long term storage much faster. Some applications require a minimum
speed and some computers video games have to have quite a lot of memory
in order to run well.
A memory upgrade is the least expensive way to fix a slow
running computer. It is also very simple to install once you have the
basics down and know a little bit about your PC memory. Notebook memory
is the same, but for brevity's sake we will concentrate just on the
desktop. The first step is to find out what kind of memory your
computer currently has and then purchase. The types of memory are: SDR
SDRAM, DDR SDRAM, DDR2 SDRAM AND RDRAM. Each will be rated according to
speed.
Step number two is to go to a discount computer hardware store
to purchase your new memory card. You want to upgrade to the highest
capacity you can afford. Remember that more memory means more speed and
efficiency for your pc. You do not want to have to purchase a new card
every few months. Go ahead and splurge a little. This is the cheapest
way to improve your computer's speed.
Most computers allow you to use generic memory cards. Once you
have your new memory card it is then time to open that baby up. Remove
the cover to your pc. If you have an available slot, then all you have
to do is plug in the new desktop memory card you purchased. If there
are no open slots left, then you will need to remove the old one and
replace it with the generic one card or a pc specific storage card.
There, that was pretty easy was it not? You can now look forward to a computer that is running faster thanks to your handy skills at performing a memory upgrade of your system. There will be more room for the Random Access Memory to draw from and you know that it means your computer will run at a faster speed. More memory also means that you will be able to play the games and listen to your MP3 players music with no loading interruptions.
